It is 2010 and I have now played the instrument intensively (meaning non-stop, non-slow sessions of up to four hours duration) for four years. The result is far, far above my expectations and even dreams. I made a primitive (wooden) spring winder and produced a new set of springs in 2007:


Much better - action can be too light and I may even try slightly harder ones.
More improvements can be made, a few more buttons are actually needed (especially the high C I forgot…). But the overall gain is the dynamics and the high volume – something which isn't really possible with an ordinary English concertina.
When I look at this video (“Daniel O’Connell”):
- it actually looks as if the hand straps are very tight. That is not the case.
